On Thursday, November 12, please join us from 7 to 9pm for the opening reception of The Eventuality of Daybreak, a solo exhibition of new work by Alex Lukas.

luk_0004aLukas’s first solo exhibition with Glowlab features a new series of post-apocalyptic urban landscapes that blur the visual boundaries of fiction and reality. Submerging cities both conceptually and physically, Lukas inundates images of American cities with layers of media representing cataclysmic floods and crippling overgrowth. Through a deft handling of paint and carefully placed screenprinted passages, the artist transforms vintage illustrations of American metropolises into scenes of an imagined future. Also included in the exhibition are works on paper depicting darkly atmospheric and barren vistas signaling devastation through an unsettling sense of absence.

In December, Glowlab heads to Miami in collaboration with Fountain, taking place December 03–06 in Wynwood during Art Basel Miami Beach. Fountain is an exhibition of avant garde artwork that lives outside the traditional art fair model and provides galleries and art dealers the opportunity to showcase fresh works in spacious venues. ArtForum on Fountain: “…Fountain was distinguished by a youthful downtown street/self-taught aesthetic.” Artnet: “Likeability and chutzpah used to be what art was about. That, and a little guerrilla mentality, which you had at Fountain in spades.”
